PC is an amorphous engineering plastic with exceptional impact strength, optical clarity, and high heat deflection temperature (~135°C unfilled). It has good electrical insulation and dimensional stability. Typical applications include automotive headlamp lenses, bullet-resistant glazing, electrical enclosures, and medical devices. Modification greatly expands PC’s versatility: glass fiber reinforced PC increases stiffness and reduces creep for structural components. Flame-retardant PC (V0 often halogen-free) is standard for electrical housings and battery packs. UV-stabilized PC with protective coatings is used for long-term outdoor glazing, roofing sheets, and greenhouse panels. PC/ABS blends combine heat resistance and processability for automotive instrument panels and laptop covers. Medical-grade PC withstands sterilization (gamma, EtO) for surgical instruments and IV components. Light-diffusing PC is used for LED lenses and signage. Scratch-resistant coated PC replaces glass in eyewear and phone screens. Carbon-fiber reinforced PC offers light weight for drone frames.
